Joel Kotkin to unveil Houston-focused Opportunity Urbanism report

Some of my long-time readers may know I worked with noted urbanist Joel Kotkin last year on a study of Houston as an engine of upward social mobility. The framework that came out of that study is called "Opportunity Urbanism", and it will be officially unveiled at a Greater Houston Partnership luncheon and media event at the Doubletree downtown next Tuesday June 5th. Here's their blurb:
The Greater Houston Partnership is pleased to host Joel Kotkin, one of America’s foremost urban historians. Mr. Kotkin will introduce his new study Opportunity Urbanism: An Emerging Paradigm for the 21st Century. He will discuss his research on urban trends and challenges and will introduce his concept of “Opportunity Cities” as the predominant model for America’s urban future.
If you'd like to attend, the registration information can be found here. Hope to see you there!

What a shame! That event is right around the corner from where I work. I'd love to take an extended lunch break and listen to Kotkin talk. However I have a scheduled afternoon presentation on some important new IT industry related wizardry to go to at the Houstonian that day and won't be able to make it.
