Houston better than Portland
Long-time readers of my blog know why I couldn't resist a chance to use that headline... ;-)A hearty congratulations to the Rockets. The last time they made the second round of the playoffs was 1997. Now it's time to shock Kobe and the Lakers. BTW, does anybody else find it annoying that we get stuck with the top-seeded Lakers instead of the lower-seeded Mavericks? What's up with that?

We lost to Dallas in the last game of the regular season. Had we one that game we would be the two seed and playing in the other half of the bracket.
I understand what dropped us to the #5 seed. But the Mavericks were the #7 (6?) seed. They should end up with the Lakers, not us, IMHO. I understand the NBA is using brackets, and since the Mavs beat the Spurs they're now considered the #3 seed, but I prefer the NFL (and MLB?) system where they always match highest-lowest seeds instead of using brackets.
On the plus side, if we can beat the Lakers and the Mavs beat the Nuggets, we'll get home court advantage in the Western Finals.
Yeah the NBA really should re-seed each round. They arguably should do this across conferences, too. This was a pretty big debate a few years ago when the West was bouncing teams in the first round that could have gone to the Finals from the East.
