Support Spring, TX competing in Yahoo's Green City Challenge
Just a quick pass-along request from HS reader Lauren Kozak:Spring, TX is one of the top contenders in Yahoo’s Green City Challenge. Cities across the country are competing for the fleet of hybrid taxis -- the more residents of Spring use Yahoo! Be a Better Planet (http://better.yahoo.com/planet), the better your chance of having the hybrid taxis or $250,000 for an environmental project for the city.My last check tonight shows that Spring has slipped to fourth, but I imagine a strong push by Houston Strategies readers - plus maybe some other local bloggers - could put them back in the running. It would be a nice accolade for a suburb of the Energy Capital of the World...
There’s only a week left in the challenge, but Spring is currently in second place and rising-- and definitely has a chance to win. I was hoping you might be interested in rallying your local readers to try to win the challenge, along with fostering some Houston pride, and bettering our planet!

I happy for the Spring. The Old Town Spring area is a wonderful asset to the Houston Region.
P.S. Can a geographical area win a cleanest city contest when it is technically not a city?
Hi!
I'm the Lauren that originally organized this placement. According to the terms of the contest, only a city can win, not a region. However, I'd like to think that a fleet of hybrid taxis or other green project can benefit a whole region. :)
The terms are here: http://better.yahoo.com/planet/rules.php if you want to check them out.
Thanks for asking! ~Lauren, lauren@m80im.com
What - if anything - is Spring doing to become a greener unincorporated area (since it's not a city...)?
Hi! Lauren again. Spring is participating in Yahoo's Green City Challenge, which you can learn more about at http://better.yahoo.com/planet. Participants in the challenge can do one of three things:
1.) Make a green pledge on green.yahoo.com
2.) Ask and/or answer environmental questions on Yahoo! Answers
3.) Do a environmental mobile search on Yahoo! oneSearch.
Thanks for asking! ~Lauren, lauren@m80im.com
I have lived in Spring off and on for 27 years, and have never seen one taxi. All the more reason why we should have this fleet, though.
